What You Will Do:

You will be assisting in the design and analysis of custom engines, chassis, machineries, and products being built in a variety of materials – composites, metals, and plastics. You must be proficient in using Solidworks and other related CAD tools to design and optimize for performance, reliability, manufacturing, and production cost.

How You Will Contribute

  • Custom racing engine, chassis, machinery, and product design and analysis as a team.
  • Must understand design, analysis, and manufacturing requirements with different materials – composites, metals, and plastics.

Technical and industrial research to support new product development and sales.

  • Follow management and project scope to interact with internal teams, clients, and suppliers to address technical issues.
  • Understand project and development plans and able to clearly articulate responsibilities, goals, and timelines. Generate reports and presentations.
  • Work with SolidWorks 3D modeling design and simulation tool. Familiar with CATIA and UG is a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the composite design, analysis, test, or integration required to define and support assigned components, assemblies or systems for optimal manufacturability and meet engineering standards and program requirements.
  • Analytical R&D in support of composite development, characterization and transition to products.
  • Develop process flow to ensure workloads are balanced between Technicians and test processes are integrated
  • Utilize production optimization tools (swim lane charts, work balance boards, string diagrams, story boards, etc.) in order to remove waste from the processes and delivery desired output quality and rate.
  • Cross-functional coordination between engineering and production disciplines to refine build and test sequences at the major assembly level.
  • Analysis of schedule risks and risk mitigation to maintain compliance with production timeline.
  • Develop and implement equipment maintenance schedules, backup solutions and spare parts holding for machinery.
  • Coordinate with supply chain to ensure shortages are identified and addressed prior to impacting build schedules.
  • Contribute as part of a team to develop new methods of simulation and modeling for composite material and structures.
  • Report writing and presentation.
  • Report to supervisor regularly on work and project status.
  • Provide offsite support (when necessary).

SKILLS Proficient in:

  • Familiar with Pro/E, Pro/Mechanica, PATRAN, MSC Nastran
  • 3D solid and surface modeling with SolidWorks, UG, CATIA (Composites experience preferred).
  • Ability to influence working culture on the shop floor in order to achieve high levels of engagement by technicians with regards to their involvement and influence in changes.
  • Experience with production of composites, advanced composites (carbon-carbon, siliocn-carbide) or carbon/ceramic fibers in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Experience and capability to rapidly introduce lean manufacturing principles Matlab programming for data manipulation and analysis.
  • Hand tools and manual machining.
